I was startled to find that on an island near the fort we had just explored, lay a never before recorded island hospital. It was once central to a massive complex of buildings covering an entire island. A local friend showed me the site and we explored it together. It was like a modern day remnant of a real Shutter Island and at over a hundred years old it's a silent reminder of the island’s past. Inside were tubs, shelves, creaky stairs and collapsed floors that contributed to making it a memorable discovery.
